Look at my sweet potootie.........oops

I mean my sweet potatoe ! Do you spell it potato ? or potatoe ? I am having a senior moment . Anyway I stuck this sweet potatoe in a glass of water to see what it would do and wow it took off growing like crazy ! I remember my aunt doing this when I was a little girl and it grew all around her kitchen window and it looked so pretty and green . I am not a very good gardener. Can I put it in dirt now ?

Hi Theresa! Your sweet "patootie" vine is very pretty! I just bought a couple of sweet potatoes yesterday...now I'm off to put half of one in water. See what you started?

Have a wonderful day! Chris

Hi Theresa :)

I haven't done that in years! I think you can put it in the ground, but I'd look it up to make sure :)

My mother used to do that, and I had not thought about it in a long time.

It looks great, but don't ask me. I would google it.

Theresa, congrats. on being picked for Antiques Roadshow - when will you be on? Hope it all runs smoothly and you have a fun time.

I never thought to do this with the sweet potato - I always buy plants already potted and then add them to the kitchen window box, mailbox bed, and a few scattered around the flower beds because they make such great ground cover for the Summer - and grow fast! I have the bright green and the dark purple.

That would be "potato" with an "o." (I was a journalism major in college at the University of Oklahoma, where my husband went to medical school.) And I haven't done the potato with the toothpick thing since my kids were little! Maybe I'll try that again.
